The original Newtons (Fig) cookies were produced in Newton, Massachusetts, but the "Fig" was dropped from the product name in 2012. The cookies were first baked at the F.A. Kennedy Steam Bakery in 1891 and named after the town of Newton. In 1991, Nabisco, which was formed by the merger of the Kennedy Biscuit Company and the New York Biscuit Company, celebrated the 100th anniversary of the cookie in Newton. The cookies are now made in Mexico
